This Venue Operations Officer assumes an imperative role in overseeing the operational aspects of events within designated venues. Serving as an escalated responder to venue issues, especially during events and carnivals, the role ensures venues are safe, inviting, and inclusive experience for officials, spectators, and stakeholders.

The Venue Operations Officer role can be defined within two core functions: general venue operations and event operations.

The casual role of Venue Operations Officer supports the successful and safe end-to-end delivery of various major, minor, sport, and community activities. This role will require you to get to know the venues and operate in accordance with standard operating procedures, and emergency management protocols. Being the escalated point of contact to participants and user groups, you will provide great customer service both prior to and during events to ensure our venues provide positive and memorable experiences.

In this role you will:

  • Open and close Basketball SA venues
  • Provide exceptional customer service to the various hirers in our venues
  • Operate in accordance with the venue standard operating procedures
  • Act as a point of contact for participants and user groups 
  • Be solutions-oriented 
  • Be able to work collaboratively with colleagues toward achieving common goals
  • Be able to undertake physically demanding tasks, where your commitment to following our safety manual handling procedures will be key 
  • Have good problem-solving skills and a positive ‘can-do’ attitude 

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated customer focus and sound problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience with hands-on facility issue resolution
  • A proven track record of high-level customer service
  • Ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement
  • Stakeholder relationship management experience
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills
  • A high level of reliability and organisational skills 
  • Will have a demonstrated passion and proficiency for working in facilities
  • Demonstrated competency in Office 365 applications (or the ability to quickly obtain)

We understand the importance of work-life balance, and while the working hours may vary from week to week depending on the sporting fixtures or events, we value your availability and flexibility. You’ll be expected to contribute during the occasional weekend, public holidays, or after typical business hours, ensuring that our venues remain a vibrant and dynamic venue for everyone to enjoy, especially for carnivals and championships.

Our Venue Operations Officer positions are paid at Level 3 under the Fitness Industry Award 2020.

Basketball South Australia (SA) is currently accepting applications to join our casual pool of SSO’s. 

The SSO is the face of Basketball SA in our stadiums and the first point of contact for our members. SSO’s play a critical role in referee and game management, and you will be provided with training in both of these areas. 

To be successful in this role you must be a team player! You need good communication and customer service skills, be friendly, approachable, and have a genuine desire to help and support players, coaches, referees and spectators to ensure everyone can enjoy the game of basketball. 

If you are a current player, a student, or just looking for some extra work in the evenings, we would love to hear from you. Shifts are available weeknights and Saturday mornings in multiple stadiums throughout the Adelaide Metropolitan Region and we can fit them in around your current basketball or other commitments.

Duties

  • Check court surfaces are clean and suitable for playing. If there is any doubt regarding safety consult with the referees and work together to resolve any issues.
  • Ensure required equipment is available prior to the first game and packed away after the last game.
  • For competitions in which match balls are provided by Basketball SA, secure match balls at the completion of each game.
  • Be the first point of contact for first aid incidents and safety concerns and monitor stadium supplies.
  • Liaise with teams to confirm team selections and process payments.
  • Provide hands on support and leadership to the referee team and other stadium staff (if present).
  • Provide access to staff room or referees room if available for referees and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Actively monitor games, including player, coach and spectator behaviour and be visible and accessible to referees, coaches, team managers and spectators.
  • Actively engage with referees throughout game stoppages to provide and receive feedback in relation to the state of play and to address any concerns.
  • Be approachable and available to respond to enquiries from referees, coaches, team managers and spectators.
  • Responsible for impartially resolving conflict and appropriately managing situations in line with Basketball SA’s Behaviour Management Framework and to encourage and uphold Basketball SA’s Codes of Behaviour.
  • Complete reports at the conclusion of each shift to provide feedback to the Manager, Referee Services Framework and the Referee Services and Development Coordinator around referee performance.
  • Complete referee rosters for some competitions, liaising with the Referee Services and Development Coordinator around rostering issues.
  • Report events and/or issues accurately with relevant detail as required. Reports may include but are not limited to the following categories:
    • Accidents
    • Behavioural Concerns
    • Hazards
    • Incidents
    • Injuries
    • Shift Summaries

Qualifications

  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Senior First Aid Certification
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Level 1C referee course, Association Development (internal training provided)
  • Level 0 Community Coaching Course (internal training provided)
